I saw it falling from the sky,
That dark and wintry night,
Big and round,
It shook the ground,
I stood bathing in it’s light.
Little sparkles, a quiet hum,
And it called out my name,
Such a frightful scare,
I was frozen there,
This object was to blame.
About the size of a FedEx truck,
And shiny, just like chrome,
A little door,
Not there before,
Opened from the dome.
A light flared out across the lawn,
Right there in my field,
And what appeared,
Was really wierd,
The little spaceman kneeled.
He said that they had heard of me,
And traveled across space,
To meet the man,
That could form a plan,
To save their dying race.
He offered up his hand to me,
In friendship and in hope,
And I reached out,
In worried doubt,
My mind could barely cope.
It seemed to me that he could talk,
Without the use of words,
I read his mind,
His thoughts were kind,
Such a story that I heard!
Their little world, so far away,
fought wars in many lands,
And hunger laced their planet,
Diseases killed their friends.
Even though so long ago,
They learned to conquer space,
There were many stupid people,
To add to their disgrace.
Their leaders ran for office,
And told each other's worse,
So whoever got elected,
Was just another curse.
Their globe was low on fuel,
And money made the laws,
And many groups fought tirelessly,
For contradicting cause.
Population was a problem,
There was nothing they could do,
And those with education,
That could help them were too few.
They hoped to find another place,
Somewhere to colonize,
And, to this end, they struggled,
Their dreams to realize.
It sounded quite familiar,
“We have problems like that too”,
I told the little alien,
“Can I just go with you?”
