They try your patience everyday

They know we’ll love them anyway.

But ask for help?, They’re slow and lazy

A teen can’t help but drive you crazy.

Unless they’re only goofin’ ‘round

Then they never feel rundown.

And discipline is just a joke

They have to push the envelope.

It’s their job to keep you stressed

"Get off the roof, your rooms a mess!"

You find your pressure’s on the rise

And soon you start to realize:

A teenage kid’s a chore to raise

It makes you long for younger days

When they were only two or three

Content to sit upon your knee.

At five or six they started school

And teachers helped to teach them rules.

Just when you thought you’d figure out

What raising kids was all about:

You turn around, they’re six feet tall

Riding skateboards down the hall

You hope that when they’re out the door

They’ll find some things to thank you for.

And you’ll do things, it now appears

You’ve waited for - for twenty years.

Don’t hold your breath ‘cause I’m afraid

They’ll realize they’ve got it made

Why sweat the forty centigrade

When mom and dad provide the shade?

Sometimes there’s even lemonade

Why seek a place where rent is paid?

So scratch that notion, it’s not true

I’ve got some gloomy news for you:

With something borrowed, something blue,

They’ll bring the spouse and live with you.
