Through open windows, late at night,

The haunting breeze arrives

Searching for the sleeping body

Where my spirit dwells

Mixed with moonlight, moist and cool,

The shadow-dream is here

Gently tugging me to journey

‘Cross the distant hills

Through the Night my soul is drifting

Many times a hundred miles

‘Till I walk deserted highways-

Vacant sidewalks of my youth

In the dark and silent sojourn,

All alone, my ghost will stroll

Haunting places long forgotten

Ancient memories, present truth

Railroad tracks and underpasses

Intersections, dimly lit

Through the night’s abandoned city

I’ve been through this all before!

Am I dead or out-of-body?

Why this venture?, no one’s here!

Many times I’ve scoured this valley

Just what am I looking for?

Feeling like it’s been forever,

In a second I’ll return

To my sleeping, waiting, body

Just before the morning gray

Half-awake, I lay there, breathing

Taking in cold-morning air

When I die, is that what’s waiting?

Can’t I roam the gold of day?

Let me hold the hands of angels

Let me bathe in Heaven’s light

Please don’t cast me off, a loner

Banished to the realm of Night

I have seen a million places

Some of them I’ve called my home

Save me from this weary travel

Guide me to your peaceful light

Then a silent, subtle answer?

Slowly dances ‘round the room

Playing on the walls and ceiling

Quite symbolic, if it’s true

Washing over all the shadows

building in crescendo, too

Keeping it’s eternal promise

Lighting up my world anew
