Our Love flows in their Veins

We were both still in our teens,

The day that we first met,

And spent those early, happy years,

In ways we can’t regret.

Then we were blessed with children,

A daughter and a son,

Our blood is mixed within their veins,

And flows as though we’re one.

Many times we worried,

When they were hurt or sick,

And thought it was a miracle,

When they got well so quick.

But there’s a darn good reason,

Why things worked out that way,

Prayer’s were answered ever since

Their eyes first saw light of day.

We won’t see the outside,

Of that black and dismal hearse,

We both have always prayed that God,

Would take us from here first.

And you’ll be here for them you know,

Long after I am dead,

I’ve said so many prayers since then,

That He’d take me instead.

But those things are a long way off,

There’s so much life to live,

And you and I will always have,

So much love to give.
