A shiny, silver necklace hung from the rearview mirror,
He remembered her gorgeous, wild eyes,
But couldn’t remember the year.

He thought about little fragments of their romantic past:
They were driving in the mountains,
And she said "You drive too fast!"
She placed her silver necklace on the mirror so it hung down,
And said, "when it swings from side to side,
Remember to slow down".
She quickly grew inside his heart, she said she loved him too,
But he wanted to be careful,
Be sure that she was true.
He daydreamed often, seeing her, perhaps someday his wife,
He dreamed of bright tomorrows,
And a happy, love-filled life.
But then he found she stole from him, his money and his jewels,
To pay for drugs and and ugly things
Aboard her "ship of fools"
Her mother came and they drove off, together quite a pair,
They’d steal and deal and buy more drugs,
From here, and there, and there.
The last he heard she was prison bound, and it almost brought a tear,
As he gazed at the Stolen Silver Necklace,
Hanging from his rearview mirror.
He drove a little slower, and used a lower gear,
He remembered her gorgeous, wild eyes,
But couldn’t remember the year.
