Sometimes it’s hard, for you and I, to get along, it seems,

Because we’ve seen each other’s hurt, each other’s broken dreams.

The one that I had trampled yours, my joy took yours away,

The love that you held in your heart, turned my love’s heart to clay.

So when I look into your eyes, the longing that I see,

Will forever be to me, a solemn mystery.

Do you look in yearning for the things that used to be?

Or do you search to find the kind of love that’s meant to be?

Are we giving of ourselves, or taking what we can?

Are we getting what we need, or giving what we can?

Do we play the hand we’re dealt, do we stand or fold?

Do we turn and walk away, or do we talk and hold?

I don’t want to make decisions when my luck is down,

I don’t want to throw away the greatest friend I’ve found.

Let’s buy ourselves some time so we can say we did what’s right

Look forward to each morning, because we loved each night.

And when I look into your eyes, from now on I will see,

Exactly what I’m looking for, ‘cause you’ll see only me,

And you’ll see your reflection when looking back at me,

And that’s the way that it will stay, if that’s what’s meant to be!
